Great Shop Vac
I bought this shop vac because it had the ash tank feature. I have a wood burning fireplace and didn’t have a good way to get all the ash out at the end of season and even during the season. I started researching and saw that you needed a special ash vacuum. I was really looking for an excuse to buy a shop vac because I could use it for other chores. I’ve been using this one for about 6 months now and it’s awesome. It has great power and the extension handle makes cleaning the garage and hardwood floors a breeze. The ash can is just what I needed to clean out the fire place too. You do have to clean the filter off after sucking up ash as it’s so fine a particle, but I just take the removable filter off and drape it onto a wheelbarrow handle outside and blow it off with my leaf blower. Plus, it works great cleaning our vehicles. The entire set up is light and the wheels work great. I highly recommend this vac.

Works fine, ash can a bit small
Does limit / reduce ashes in main canister. Took a reasonable amount of ashes in to ash can. Might need multiple can loads for a full fireplace.

Great vacuum, better than ShopVac and Craftsman so far.
Remodeling master bedroom, master bathroom, kitchen, and guest house and this vacuum outlasted a ShopVac (burnt out) and a craftsman 6.5 XSP (motor stopped moving air), the craftsman top kept popping off too. I am very impressed and will be buying 2 more of these Vacmasters (1 for office and garage). I don’t care about the price, I care about performance and longevity. I would pay more for the Vacmaster because it outlasted and outperformed the other vacuums, less trips to the hardware store. You can’t go wrong with this vac. The only thing I would change, the ash/fine dust collector hose does not fit the accessories. But aftermarket adaptor fixed the issue, Vacmaster, as a convenience you should include a adaptor. Thanks.

The Vac’s fine, but worthless as an ash vac
If you need an ash vac this is absolutely worthless. The vacuum itself seems fine, but I already have one of those. The ash can part of this is worthless. I tried to clean 2 pellet stoves with maybe about a pound of ash between them. The ash can had less than an ounce of ash in it. The rest clogged and most likely ruined the vac’s filter. Expensive lesson. Don’t make my mistake. Buy a real ash vacuum.

Chose this for metal dust. Works well.
Working surprisingly well for a couple of disc sanders I use for steel. The ash can helps prevent fires. Lol. Overall the metal design is a safer choice. For this small application, it’s effective enough. Pleased with my choice.

Ordered for the ash can, sucked it right into the vacuum anyway
Ordered this basically just for the convenience of the ash tank when vacuuming out the woodstove. First time I tried it it pulled a bunch of ash right into the vacuum and clogged the screen on the ash tank. Completely worthless for my purpose. Now I have two things to clean. Boxed back up and sent back. Great Idea in theory but didn’t work. Back to shoveling out the ash.

Quiet power
I purchased this shop vac because of its designation as a quiet shop vac. I use this to reduce the fine dust created by my scroll saw without blasting my hearing as do my other shop vacs. The preliminary canister does not make a big difference, but it does not reduce the suction, and so I leave it on line. The vac does the job, and my neighbors are probably grateful, since I use it mainly with the garage door open.
