We live in a one level apartment. We have been using a neato 3d connected vacuum for the past 4 years or so. Neato closed up shop a while back and recently, the software on our phones that control it stopped working. From what I can tell online, it’s the android version not allowing it to connect which would cause the app to require an update to start working. Well, with the company out of business and the lack of being able to control the thing… we had to try something new.One thing the neato really had issue with was connectivity. It was fussy even when we first got it. It would take many tries to get it to connect and work with the app. Once it connected, it was good for quite a while, but eventually, we’d have to reconnect it by uninstalling the app, resetting the vacuum, etc. However, what it did well was clean and was easy to clean/empty the bin. It was a D shaped vacuum with the broom/suction going edge to edge on the front of the D (left side of the D). The dirt receptacle came out of the top, so you’d let the device finish and park, then just pull the bin, dump it and drop it back in. You didn’t have to pull the vacuum off it’s stand, flip it over or mess with anything. It also picked up a lot of dirt (we have 2 cats and 80% carpet covering our floors). Also, with magnet strips on the floor barricading the rooms/areas we didn’t want it go, it went only where we wanted it.So, we had 4 years of that experience to compare any new device to.This new vacuum cleans well and seems pretty thorough. Connecting it to the app was fairly painless and we have only had to do that once when we got it (2 months ago).It is a bit more effort to empty the bin as you have to pull the vacuum out of it’s dock, remove the bin, be careful how you open the bin as it likes to pop open quickly which dumps dirt everywhere, then bang it on the trash can to get the filter as clean as you can, close it, re-install it, then push the vacuum back onto the dock.Since it’s not the D shape like our old one, it doesn’t get close to the walls like it used to. I mean, it tries with the little spinner brush thing, but it doesn’t do as good of a job.It doesn’t follow the map very well when you block off areas for it to not go. Sometimes it does what you tell it, others, it goes where it wants. Also, the filter is glued to the receptacle. So, when it’s time to change the filter, you throw the whole bin away, which seems like a waste, but it is what it is. They aren’t overly expensive, $25 for 4 with new spinner brushes. Just seems like a waste to throw the entire thing away when it likely wouldn’t have taken much effort to make the filter itself removable. If this one dies on us, I’m not sure what we will try next. Dyson makes a D shaped one as does roomba, but if this lasts 4 years like our last, who knows what will be available then. Maybe shark will make one too!

Bad reviewers lighten up.
We had an Ecovacs N97 for YEARS. Our little ‘dinosaur’ compared to today’s tech did the job. This new vac is amazing in comparison! It cleans very well. The mapping program is crazy awesome! People say that it makes noise…yup, it’s a vacuum and they tend to do that. SMH. It’s a tank, it mapped almost with 100% accuracy, we can choose whole house, by room or a stubborn spot. It empties itself very well. If you want to drop $1k on a vacuum, knock yourself out. This does the job and does it well for a minimal expense. Buy it. Very happy customers here.

Buckle up, buttercups, this isn’t a short review but it is an honest one. First, the packaging is so thorough and well designed that you could drop the box off a balcony and it would probably be okay. This box is packed better than TSA-approved luggage. Unboxing was smooth and quick – within five minutes of ripping off the tape like it owes me money, the robot was charging and almost ready to go.The robot itself is beefy. Larger than my previous Shark but it also offers better design and suction power. Remarkably quiet despite it’s size and capability. The robot sucked up a ten inch long butcher’s twine and didn’t hesitate to continue. In fact, I’m pretty certain I heard dust bunnies bid farewell to their wives because this Spartan of a robot had arrived. The roller turns to the beat of war drums… war on dirt.Wifi setup was fast and painless, but you do need to be VERY CLOSE for the connection to register. The app is simple and allows spot cleaning, zone definition, and remote commands. For under $200 I am very pleased and will recommend this to anyone who needs a vacuum robot. The age of upright vacuums is over. Rejoice!

This vacuum has performed flawlessly, with respect to everything. That never ever happens to me. I rarely review, but Shark has earned it.I have a German Shepherd/Pit Bull hybrid. He takes after the German Shepherd when it comes to shedding. It amazes me, every year, how much hair he has. When he walks by, and happens to be in a sunbeam, you can watch the hair falling off his body. This vacuum said it had a self-cleaning roller. I usually “grain of salt” those types of claims as just marketing lies. After two weeks of use, and several times emptying the base, I needed to take the roller out. There was no hair at all. To be fair, he’s a short hair, but we also have a Maine Coon cat; he’s long hair and no slouch at shedding. What I can say for sure is this: I cannot imagine anybody having a complaint about this machine if it is functioning the way it is intended. The negative reviews seem to be with regard to Customer Service, connectivity, legitimate programming glitches, and perceived programming glitches.I’ve seen a couple of reviews that say their machine bumbled around hitting things over and over. They may well be right. In that case, the programming may be glitchy. [This is where the less-than-stellar reviews come in: customer service, something I’ve not experienced] A different one would likely fix it.I am of the opinion that some reviewers have created their own bumbling robot. The machine makes a map of your house and uses it every time it cleans. Mine knows where things are with impressive precision. But, if you move something, like a chair, then yeah, to get around and vacuum close to what the robot thinks is an obstacle, it’s going to use its front “feeler” bar.Once, my wife accidentally kicked the robot off its stand during the middle of the day. To our surprise and on its own, the robot got back on his stand.Works in the dark, quiet enough to sleep while it is vacuuming hard wood floors.I couldn’t be happier.
