Superior Single Purpose Vacuum
This vacuum is designed to do one thing, clean carpets. It does not have all the bells and whistles, does not have attachments, does not cook and serve you breakfast. It was made for long term effective use, ease of function and repair and to perform its single function better than all others. It definitely lives up to that. I have had Dyson, Sharks and a multiple of others, and they just do not perform as well as the Sanitaire. As I said, it is a limited machine, a commercial machine that you will have for many years. It is very durable, simply made and all the parts are available from Sanitaire should you need them. Most parts are interchangeable for the different models as they are designed for heavy, non-stop use with no down time. Not the most attractive vacuum on the market but these are not designed with vanity in mind. It is a workhorse. The performance has been fantastic. We also have a shark rotator which we used very thoroughly before this one arrived. Once put together, 5 minute process, my wife used the Sanitaire on the whole house and was surprised how much came out of the carpet. The shark works well, but can’t touch the abilities of the Sanitaire. The shark is useful when you need a crevice tool or a blind cleaning tool but, when you need to do your normal vacuuming cycle the Sanitaire is the one to do it. If you are deciding between Sanitaire models, I suggest you go to the Sanitaire website to see what is available and the difference between the models. There are subtle differences but, determine what the important features are. One thing to consider is the waste collection. This model uses a paper bag disposal (ST bags) but, you can also convert to a “Shake bag” if you like. It really depends on how sensitive you are to airborne allergens. If you buy a Shake bag model you can also convert to the paper disposal bag as well, however you will use a FG bag instead. As I said, do your due diligence before purchase so you know what you are ordering. Couple of things worth mentioning. This model has a 50 foot cord. The cord has heavy casing so once wrapped around the store clips it is very bulky. Not a problem really but I removed it and used a lighter cased 50 foot cord and it works out much better. This model only came with a 50 foot cord so I had no choice and a commercial vacuum should have a long cord. The cord has a pigtail so you can change it out if you choose. The clips that the cord warps around and the spring attaches to are plastic. I would have preferred metal clips as these clips have a lot of stress on them. Not really a con, but I would think Sanitaire would have used metal clips to stick with the durability appeal of the unit. Highly recommend

Best vacuum for high loft carpet
We recently had our entire house recarpeted with Karastan’s Impressive Form carpet. It is not a shag carpet but does have longer fibers then Berber or that type. It is beautiful and feels fantastic to walk on in bare feet. However, unfortunately, the carpet store employee, who seemed to know a lot about carpet, never mentioned that most vacuum cleaners are IMPOSSIBLE to use on this carpet without breaking one’s back. Even the Karastan website was not helpful, other than to say Dysons would not work (something we quickly figured out as that is what we had.) They did recommend a Kenmore model which we bought and it really didn’t work very well either without exerting a tremendous amount of energy. Luckily, when the carpet installers were at our house I noticed that they had this Sanitaire Commercial Upright Vacuum and I had run it for a few minutes over the new carpet. Since we purchased this sturdy vacuum our lives are happy again. We set it to one of the higher settings and it works like a dream. Can’t use it on wood floors so we still can use the new Kenmore we’d just bought for that.

Down and Out in Under 30
I bought this vacuum because it is a commercial unit. We have a dozen or so area rugs that are vacuumed once per week. While using the vacuum yesterday I begin to smell something burning inside the unit and it began to leak out what it had collected when the unit was turned off. This vacuum is of course under warrenty, but I have to go to the trouble of shipping it back. A so called commercial product should not have failed in this length of time.

Grew up on this vacuum and will buy it til I die.
I bought this vacuum when I got married and had my own apartment to vacuum. This vacuum is great! It is carpet only vacuum and it does carpet right!We had this vacuum growing up. My mom had to replace it after 10+ years (and three kids – two boys, imagine the number of legos this thing ate :). I bought it because it works fabulously and look forward to always having a Sanitaire!If you are looking for something for hardwood or that has a lot of attachments, this is not for you.

really happy with this vacuum. It blows away any other upright vacuum that i have used. built solid. few pieces that could break. Sucks like mad and super strong beater. the first time i vacuumed it sucked up about 3 pounds of dirty that my old vacuum was obviously missing. looking at buying some extra bags for it now since it looks like it will fill up this bag in about a month…if it keeps finding all this dirt in my rugs. would buy it again without a second thought.
