Buy a cheaper vac instead.
So, I’ve had this vac for about a year and a half now and I feel swindled. It’s definitely not worth the $500 I shelled out for it. Before I got this one, I always just bought inexpensive vacuums that lasted about 3-4 years before breaking. I finally thought I’d treat myself and get a good, reliable one. Too bad I chose this machine. It’s never worked as well as the one I tried in the store, it’s very heavy (doing stairs with it is a workout), and the bags are insanely expensive. It doesn’t do well on hardwood floors at all and spits everything out behind it (although there is some attachment that I could plunk more money down for and then I’d have to change it out every time I went from hardwood to carpet – so inconvenient). I took it back to the store and the repair guy’s input was, “I don’t know what to tell you, it has suction,” after the salesman admitted that mine doesn’t work as well as the floor model. I’m going back to throwaway vacuums – not very green, but at least I get my money’s worth and don’t feel like a sucker.

best I’ve ever owned
I have owned this vacuum for a couple of years now. Although it’s expensive and not “fancy”, we purchased it because our previous machines were never satisfactory. They either blew dirt back out the exhaust, were super noisy and/or heavy, and the cake was taken when a relatively new but just-out-of warranty machine needed repair and could not be fixed. The Lindhaus is very lightweight and easy to manuver, very quiet so others are not disturbed and children and pets are not afraid of the noise. It does not have a “headlight”, but does have an indicator light that goes on when the bag is full and needs to be changed. It’s easy to change the bag. The machine is repairable and though I have never needed this service, there are several vacuum stores in my area that can handle this brand. The only downside, I would say, is the bags seem a little more expensive, but I should add that I have not priced the bags of other brands lately. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a reliable machine and isn’t overly impressed with bells, whistles and doo-dads.
