Surprising Little Robot
We’ve only had it for a few days but it seems to be a great little unit. We called iLife’s customer service during the set up to get a few tips. They were fantastic and one of the reasons we chose the robot. Many of the other makers of floor robots do not have any customer service unless you send an e-mail to a place in China. First off, you need to know that if you have both carpet and hard floors, you will need to block off the carpet when using the washing function. Otherwise the robot will try to wash your carpets. iLife does not use block technology or magnetic strips to keep the robot contained in your desired space. That said, the vacuum function works great on hard floors. It will work on low pile carpet, but it’s not perfect. We were shocked to see how much it picked up. It picked up dust and small particles, a few dust bunnies that come off our wool area rugs and hair. The dust bin is large so you can do your entire house without having to dump it. The vacuuming goes fast and it will do at least 1800 square feet at one time. It does take a while for the robot to find its way back home, but that is not a problem. Charging did not take long—-we didn’t time it but it probably took about an hour in the docking station before we could use it again. The washing function does a much better job than I had expected. We put it on pathway mode and the little robot performed fantastically. We had spilled a little grease in the kitchen the night before and we were dubious about the robot getting it up. Well, it did after we ran the unit twice. There were no streaks and we were extremely happy with the results. You are not supposed to put any cleaning solution in the tank, so we just used water. Surprisingly, the water does a great job. The reusable mopping pads only need to be washed out after use and we do it by hand using a little Dawn dishwashing detergent. The pads come clean very easily. You can find videos of how-to on the iLife site that show you how to use and maintain the robot. Altho, we were a little disappointed that there was not much info on the latest V8s model. The good news is that customer service will help you with any questions and they are very knowledgeable. We hope this little robot lasts a good while because it has turned out to be a great helper and time saver. Very happy with the purchase and the price was great.

Still going strong after 5 years
We use this to vacuum the house when we are not home. After 5 years, it is still working like it was new.We only use the vacuum mode (not mopping) and prefer the setting that causes the unit to vacuum in rectangles rather than wander aimlessly. Does a good job cleaning both the tile floors and carpets.Only downside is that we sometimes have to rescue it when it manages to get stuck in a tight fit under a couch.

Best for its price point
For the price, you can’t beat this. I’ve had two other robots (shark $300, and an irobot at $700). This $150 robot is better than the shark and at the price point, I think comparable to the irobot.I have a 2500sq ft house on two levels. All hardwood but with some area rugs. The best way to vacuum is to run it on path mode. I come home from work every day and place the robot (named Hal 1000) in about 1/3 area of my home. The rest of the home is blocked off with doors or a chair. Hal does his business and returns “home” which is his start point. In the upstairs room which is the game room and almost entirely empty of furniture you can see he does a great job of zoning the room out and covering all zones. Some paths are repeated on order to ensure all paths are taken but they are all covered once.Hal recognizes ledges and obstacles very well. He slows down and avoids most of them. His effectiveness is slightly effected by the cat who is on the war path against him, but Hal still catches all the “paths” in the room. He’s not great at the corners of the room because he can’t get close enough due to his round design. This is a flaw with all robot vacuums which means you still need to sweep and mop on your own.Hal navigates under the dining room table and chairs with limited success due to him not fitting well but he’s never been stuck. His low profile goes under the bed and dresser without issue as well. He’s able to push small cat toys out of this way which is a bonus. His wheels are silent but the sucking noise of the vacuum means I don’t run him at night. If you had tile with grout it could be loud.I don’t mop. I don’t trust him for that. But I’m disgusted by what he picks up even after running every day. I try not to think about the floors pre-Hal.Update – it’s been four months and I have tried the mop function. He’s not great but it’s OK. The water container is small. He can only do maybe one or two rooms so not very useful at all.I have cats and Hal still does great at picking up fur and dust. Not super great with crumbs or grains of dirt. They get pushed up against a wall usually.Hal does have a massive problem with himaja hair. His brushes have to be cleaned out about once a month by removing them and unscrewing them. I’m going to knock a star off for this and the mop function.Overall, still great value for the money. I’d buy it again.

Used to have a Roomba but it was hard to maintain because hair was getting stuck everywhere. This unit is suction-only, so its easily maintainable.
