Easy to use and effective
I bought this for daily waste removal from the bottom of an aquatic turtle tank, and it works really well for that purpose. Our tank is too big to use this for full water exchanges in a timely manner (we use an electric submersible pump for that), but this is perfect for quickly removing solid waste and a little dirty water to a waste bucket.I first tried a manual syphon (from another brand) and it worked well to remove waste, but the bulb pump took a lot of effort to start. I then tried an electric vacuum (from the same brand as this) that filters and returns the water to the tank, and it was less trouble to start but the filtration wasn’t great. This was a good middle ground. It takes a few trigger pulls to start the suction since the tank is fairly deep, but it’s much easier than the bulb and doesn’t require electricity, and it extracts waste cleanly. The clip that attaches to the waste bucket isn’t wonderful and occasionally pops free, so I have to keep an eye on that, but otherwise, this has been one of the handier cleaning tools I’ve bought for tank maintenance.

Tried for Pond, did not work
This was a trial product for my outdoor pond. I have muck buildup on the pond bottom, no gravel. My pond bottom is deeper than the outside surface and the suction was not strong enough to lift muck off the pond bottom. May work great as designed/sold for aquarium, so can’t fault the product there. The clips to hold the tubes to the drainage bucket are brittle and don’t flex easy enough to not clamp the tube.

Really works!
I never write reviews but this thing is so awesome I had to let everyone know. Easy to use and did a great job cleaning up the gravel. Just did a light pass over everything and there is a notable improvement. Going to give it a week and do another pass. Great product for the price.

Suction gun doesn’t work after 1 use
I’ve purchased two of these in total, about a month apart. The first one worked great the first time I used it. The second one worked great the first time I used it as well. Today I tried to use the newest one (the second one) again, because it’s a new tank and I’m doing multiple water changes as my fish are new too and are getting quarantine meds. But it won’t work. It just doesn’t suck up water. The trigger gun suction is the whole beauty of this item and it doesn’t work after just one use. I’m returning it. But I still need to do a water change so I went and grabbed the first one (the older one) and tried to use that one, and same exact deal. Zero suction. That trigger gun just has no ooomph now. You can feel the difference when you’re pulling the trigger. It’s crazy that it just stopped working after one time for both of them! They could not have worked more perfectly the first time I used each of them.So to recap, I have two of these that only worked one time each. One is outside the 30-day return period by about 8 days and one is inside of it and is being returned. I will contact Hygger about the one that’s outside of the return period. It’s too expensive of an item for a one-time use only.I have no idea how I just randomly happened to get two bad ones or if people are just not updating their original reviews, but buyer beware. They don’t last like they should. Hygger is a good name, or at least I thought it was supposed to be good, but this is not a quality product like I would have expected from them.

Great product
This was one of the most amazing products I purchased for our pet turtle. She looks so happy with a clean tank. It definitely exceeded my expectations.

Broke after one use. Don’t recommend for Fluval Betta Gravel (or any fine gravel).
The product is easy to assemble and use, and has perfectly good suction. I got it because I was struggling to get a normal siphon going. The first time I used it was fantastic, and I just had to practice putting a kink in the hose to increase and decrease the suction.Unfortunately, the second use is when things went wrong. I have betta tanks with fine grain gravel from Fluval designed specifically to be gentle on betta fins. No matter how careful I was, little bits of that gravel would get sucked through the siphon into my bucket. (Not much, maybe a tablespoon.) The second time I tried to use the Hygger siphon, the trigger would depress but no water would get sucked into the siphon. Drying the apparatus out didn’t work, and it can’t be taken apart to check if there’s any stuck gravel interfering with the function.I returned the first siphon and got a second, and the same thing happened. I resorted to scouring YouTube for How-To videos on normal low tech siphons, and finally found a technique that worked for me. Moral of the story- low tech has been the standard for a reason, and I’ll be sticking with it from now on.If you still want to try this product, my recommendation is to only use it on larger gravel or river stones, but nothing fine grained. I wish I had sand substrate to test it on, but I’m not confident that wouldn’t cause issues too.

A Must Have Item
This Gravel Cleaner is a nice to have on hand for aquarium clean up chores. I used it for my 2.6/5/20 Gallon tanks. It does the job quickly and easily. I purchased the 4 gal. bucket for my water changes and gravel cleaning. Be careful with gravel underneath cleaning as you can remove too much media at once. I suggest you clean half then wait a few days to clean the other half. To remove waste and decayed food just hover it above the gravel in a back and forth slow seeping motion.

I love this!!! Why did it take me so long to finally buy this type?! The other gravel cleaners I can never get to work….unless I stick a turkey Baxter in the end of the hose to start it…or suck on the hose to get it going. So gross. I got a battery operated one and it came with no instructions and so many pieces I honestly found it to be intimidating. Then I found a second hand battery operated one. I was able to use it one time and then it never worked again. So I finally ordered this because my neighbor says they’re amazing and let me tell you. I love it!! Its not the fastest but it gets the job done and my fish aren’t scared. My only complaint is I feel like you have to keep squeezing the trigger to get it to keep emptying the water nonstop. And as someone that has had carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists it can get tender but my 9 year old thinks this is the coolest so I’m hoping that I can get him to help with water changes more often.

Excellent product. Much sturdy and better performing than others available in the market.

Once you get to know how to use, it is good. A bit hard on hand. You should not handle it rough. Satisfied with the product.

Has alot of suction, squeezing the handle is easy. Sucks gravel and sand into the gun. Rendering it useless until you clean out the gun. Fills the tube right up with gravel and doesn’t release any of it until you pull those gun out of the water. This thing is useless. Picture shows the sand and gravel it pulled thru the gun on its first bucket. Every bucket is like this. I would return it, but I threw the box away. Take my warning and don’t buy this. Seriously disappointed, thought I had a winner. What a loser.

It worked twice before dying. When it did work, it was pretty good but clearly there are manufacturing issues within the gun itself. Don’t bother getting this – much better options out there.
