    So great for little tanks!
I love that this is a gravel vac that only needs a few inches of water so I can get ALL the gunk from my nano tanks. The MAJOR flaw for me is not having a shut off on the handle. Not only that, but the switch is waaay back on the cord. Its not great. It hasn’t happened yet, but it’s a matter of time before the very strong suction grabs a plant, or a baby fish and there will be nothing I can do to stop it. It does come with at least one really helpful guard, but baby skrimps and baby Nanos will go right through. Still, 5 stars for being a lifesaver and saving me a lot of work!

Huge waste of money. Does not work as well as it is advertised. Broke first time it was used.

    Great product.
I use this for filling my tank. Fast and easy. Being able to clean sand without removing water is a game changing cash saver.

Quickly becoming my favorite aquatics brand!
I stayed up until 4am playing with this, doing water changes. i bought it to help my back issues, as a 5gallon bucket is approximately 50lbs weight. i keep goldfish PROPERLY, so it’s important to keep changed. This tool does that, and so much more! it comes with lots of cleaning attachments, you can use this pump to clean any kind of tank: salt, fresh, big, small, sand, gravel, barebottom, you name it. I honestly can’t recommend this enough, and i definitely recommend you check out hygger’s other aquarium stuff. my only complaint is: the black tubing used for doing water changes is a little thin. this helps it be way more flexible and manageable than tubing on other pumps/siphons, but it does mean it doesn’t seal as well when you slide it on. i recommend permanently sealing the tube to its attachment piece. mine doesn’t leak, it will only drip from that spot about 3-4 drops in the time it takes to pump a 5 gal. bucket. sealing it is no big deal at all. incredible price!

Works, but not for large scale clean up
It can be a bit challenging to get the unit to begin suction. You have to sort of finesse the angle of your dispensing tube in conjunction with your sink to get the suction activated. Once it is pumping however, it works somewhat well for sand/gravel cleaning. The motor is significantly less powerful than i anticipated and does not do well in suctioning larger debris such as decomposing vegetation. If you’re trying to get deep into thick substrate, it struggles a bit as well maintaining suction power. The kit itself comes with a nice multitude of attachments which allow access to hard to reach places/the ability to clean varying types of granular substrates which is something unique to other models I’ve owned. The handle comes with extensions, which allows you to customize the length of it if you have a deeper tank. The cord is relatively short, so you will need an open outlet that is close – within 4 feet of the tank itself, or an extension cord. The largest perk of this style cleaner is it’s environmental impact. Sure you use a little electricity, but when comparing its use to conventional sink/vacuum style gravel cleaners, you save a considerable amount of water by having an electric pump. Overall, I would consider this a decent product for the price, but feel it is underpowered for those with larger grain substrates/heavily planted tanks.

    Very effective Aquarium Vac
Cut cleaning time for my 25 gallon tank to half an hour. The Hygger vacuum comes with several attachments, but for my purposes (I have Fluval stratum as gravel) just two, the brush and the clear cylinder work fine. I can easily see the debris being removed because the water flowing back into the tank is not clouding the water. When the water flow slows, just clean out the sponges and continue. Cleaning the sponges is quick. I had to clean the sponges two more times which isn’t much effort. I could see from the sponge cleaning how much debris was taken out, leaving the tank very clean.

    Terrible design
Alright, I gave it my best shot but the shape of this thing makes it a nightmare to use. I got it for my 40 gallon but even with no extenders it was too tall to maneuver. I thought ‘ well that’s okay, it’ll work with the 75 gallon.’ Which hey, it DID fit well and I could move it around…which let me figure out all the other problems with this thing. First, the sponge inside the gravel attachment clogged pretty much immediately, which I expected, that’s on me, I have goldfish in a planted tank I knew I’d be wringing the sponges out. Except I cannot get to the sponge. It’s enclosed with the bottom being a plastic mesh and the top being bottlenecked too small to get fingers through. I couldn’t even pull the sponge out with needlenose pliers. So I had to go out and blast it with the hose to mostly unclog it. I’m willing to give that the benefit of the doubt because maybe I just couldn’t get it open. The problem that I cannot find an excuse for is the location of the on/off button. It not located on the device or even on the part of the cord ATTACHED to the device. It’s on the SECOND SECTION of the cord. The part closest to the outlet. It’s not conducive to the human body to operate this. If you’re up on a stool, using both hands to guide this thing and suddenly “OH NO! KUHLI LOACH WAS IN THE SAND!” and you need to turn it off REAL QUICK, you better have someone else in the house who is on the floor WHERE THE POWER SWITCH IS, ready to help. The good things I can say is it seems to have pretty good suction power and possibly in the hands of a 6’8 basketball player with an aquarium set up specifically to accommodate using this thing and the patience of Buddhist monk this would be a great product. That is not me tho.

    Awesome Product
I LOVE IT! No more pumping a manual tank vacuum and still not actually cleaning the tank. The product cleans a ten gallon tank in under two minutes, has powerful suction, and removes almost all of the debris from the water, unlike a manual that leaves the debris floating in the water. It can empty a ten gallon tank in approximately three minutes.

This works great, better than I expected and it has so many useful attachments makes cleaning and changing the water in my 45g tank much easier. It has great suction power cleans the rocks good. The only downside is the clean up it seems to really trap the little bit of derbies in the foam and the plastic screen.

  10. Real reviews you can trust

Used 3 times so far, got blocked twice. Had to disassemble the pump piece by piece. But I could not find what caused the pump fail to spin. Reassembled the pieces and it worked again. The build quality is poor and flimsy with thin plastics. Cannot compare with the quality Eheim, fluval, SICCE etc. Noise level is good. The pump is also bulky, not suitable for 20 gallon tanks and less. When in use, you have to pay much attention not let it suck some dirt or plants debris otherwise it easily fails.Overall, the pump is weak, it can not suck water of the tank on the ground to the height of kitchen sink. It also uses 110v directly, unlike some others using 12 v or 24 v DC. Not recommend it at all.

The idea is that it will pump the water and you can clean the gravel as it does so. Two things happen:1. suction filer and other filter don’t do a great job of filter minute particles, so if you pumping the water back into the tank, it becomes cloudy.2. Filter becomes clogged quickly and loose functionalityHowever if you remove the filter and then pump the water out as you are cleaning the gravel this works great. I then just clean the pumped water with coffee filter or just replace it with fresh water.

This pump works great for my 20 gallon tank, I’m able to do water changes in about half the time it normally takes me. I did seem to get a faulty pump first, as it stopped working after 2 months of using it once a week. I contacted the seller and they assisted me right away and sent me a new one. I received the new pump within 2 days of contacting and showing them that the pump did not work. This will be a game changer for my 65 gallon tank when I set it up and I highly recommend it!
