Great performance value
I decided to replace my 5-year-old inexpensive Eureka vacuum cleaner with something better. With a budget of less than $250 I spent some time looking around at the available options. I wanted a vacuum with some reputation as having good machines in general. It was important to have a manual height adjustment, since I have a very deep shag rug for which my âsecond vacuumâ with its automatic height adjustment has difficulty cleaning. Overall weight was less important, and in fact, I associate higher weight with a more capable motor. I do not care about swivel ability. Nor do I need a canister that can be removed for more mobile cleaning. (I have a small Dyson for that). I was open to a bagless or bagged model as long as it has a HEPA filter. A long cord is essential, and I have gotten used to the convenience of a retractable cord system on my Eureka. I have no pets, and a variety of flooring surfaces from hardwood to medium pile and shag.I am pretty happy over the past week with the Hoover WindTunnel. It was easy to set up, I did not have to open any of the instructions. It is satisfyingly heavy. It picked up more fluff and dust out of my deep shag following a fresh and careful vacuuming with my old Eureka. The cord is, disappointingly, not self-retracting, but gets a positive mark for being 10 feet longer than the Eureka cord, 40 feet vs 30 feet. Now I can reach a more spots without changing plugs. (My survey indicated that 30-foot cords are most common). Rolling up the cord by hand is fine based on the observed performance. It is heavier than the Eureka, and I still like using the full vacuum, rather than the hose-based beater, on the stairs, so just a bit more of a workout. The Amazon near holiday deal was hard to pass up. I think this Hoover WindTunnel 3 represents a great value as a mid-priced vacuum. Hopefully it will hold up as long as my about to be ârecycledâ Eureka.

Hoover Windtunnel 3 Good Performance
Unpacking and setup: Unpacking was what one would expect, lots of plastic and Styrofoam. The main unit was a little difficult to pull out, but not as bad as I had feared considering the reviews saying this unit is unusually heavy. I will go deeper into that later. Assembly was straight forward enough. Remove a screw from the base, insert handle, and reconnect screw. For cord storage, turn the top hook (on the handle) upward by loosening the set screw and turning it then re-tighten. Canister just sits on the base and clips onto the top handle. Very simple, really. I read one review where the connection to the canister did not align compromising the suction. That is probably a QC issue, because I experienced no issues there. Should not require any âuser-interventionâ in that area. That is pretty much it for assembly except snapping the brush onto the articulating duster tool.First use: Great sucking power. I found that on hard floors, using the brush was the best choice. Without the brush, the cleaner gets âstuck.â What carpet we have down is very low, but I found Setting 2 to be sufficient. Using the hose required turning the knob on the right side of the unit labelled âFloorâ and âHose.â My old machine did not require this. The cord is VERY long, so I was able to clean the entire first floor of my home without having to change the plug. The weight seemed to be a big issue with a lot of people. I found, on the right setting, it really is not that hard to push. High-pile rugs/carpet might require a little muscle but I am partially disabled and it really was not that difficult for me.Noise is not any worse than our old Hoover. Decent vacuum cleaners will be a little loud. But this unit is not excessively loud.Second use: Pretty consistent results. Used the brush attachment on the ceiling fans. Unlike other reviewers, I had no difficulty with the brush adapter staying attached. There is a tab at the top of the brush which goes into the slot of the housing then the bottom clips snug. My only complaint about this is that it is a bit large to get any decent suction on the fan blades. The brush strands are a little thin. I expected a little more density to the brush and a little smaller overall size.Had no difficulty carrying it by the bucket handle, but found I must re-seat it so the rubber gasket maintains a firm seal. Honestly does not seem that heavy to me. The quality of plastic is, well, itâs plastic. If you donât manhandle it, you should have no difficulty. Also, the cord fits fine on the hooks. One reviewer showed a picture of the broken hook from âregular usageâ¦â Broken handle from â..no exuberant amount of pressure.â This handle seems to hold up to the pressure I put on it and Iâm no delicate touch. In truth, I find this to be good quality considering the materials used and the price. You just canât buy anything better at this price point. That said, I did discover I was missing a couple of accessories. The dusting/upholstery tool and extra filter disk. When I contacted support, they were less than helpful. I contacted them through their website only to be greeted by the support tech with an inventory of what should be included, despite my stating very clearly that I was missing these items. After a week of email exchanges, she tells me to call the Customer Service hotline. Something she COULD have told me at the very beginning rather than wasting my time.My other issue is this could have come with the cord rewind. Yes, I knew it did not have it before buying but the trade-off at the next highest price point was not a good trade-off.My old machine actually locked in the mid position so you can tilt the brush up. This one will go to the floor.Pros: Good suction, mostly useful tools, Maneuverable, Long power cord, easy clean-out.Cons: Customer Service, missing tools, tank can come lose, no cord-rewind, no handle mid-point lock.-1 Star for Customer Service and tank unseating.5 Stars because it does clean well and attachments are usefulTotal of 4 Stars.

The Hoover Windtunnel is a very powerful vacuum. My last one Hoover was a Windtunnel as well and the new one is almost identical. I have several Hoover vacuums in my home and they last. I stand behind Hoover. I’ve tried other brands, they don’t survive like the Hoover. The switch broke on my old Windtunnel and I replaced. It’s now operational once again. Ocassionally, I will take it apart to wash out the really fine dust it collects. Very easy to put back together with no problems. You won’t go wrong purchasing this vacuum. A very satisfied customer!

Purchased this vacuum based solely on the Hoover reputation, and was thoroughly disappointed with its quality. The cord handle broke just after a year. The actual cord started to come loose where it meets the vacuum after 18 months, whereby you had to hold the cord a certain way just for it to operate and not lose power. And just after two years use, the motor burnt out entirely. It worked well in the first year, but started to break down in stages after that. Would not purchase again, and has motivated me to try a different brand next time.

This vacuum cleaner really impressed me. I recently moved into a house with carpeting in almost every room and was in need of a powerful machine because the one I had was only for normal floors. The picture of the full refill was only 5 minutes of use on the carpet, which looked ok. I decided to test it also on the outside carpet because it is harder to see if it would cause any damage. It cleaned well, and the carpet looked like new. The same thing happened to the kitchen carpet, which was very clean. Here at home, we have two types of carpets, the thinner and the thicker ones, and it cleaned them both very well. I will not deny that the product is noisy and heavy, but the result is worth it.
