GREAT tool. Absolutely fits the cheapo Harbor Freight grinders.
Mine is the black 4.3 amp Drillmaster 4-1/2″ angle grinder and I had no trouble attaching this dust shroud. I was actually very impressed with the solid build of this thing despite the low price, and AMAZED by how well it worked. Practically eliminates dust completely. I purchased a different (and much more expensive) shroud previously and returned it immediately because I wasn’t able to fasten it solidly to my grinder. No such trouble with this one. A few important observations I made:- “Universal” doesn’t mean “no adjustment required.” You might have to tinker with it to get everything right, so be patient. These are dangerous, high-speed tools. Take your time.- Don’t try to just use the clamp arm to get a tight fit. That will get it snug, but then you have to tighten it fully with a metric socket. Once I did that, the shroud never wobbled once.- Setting the shroud so the bristles just barely extend past the surface of your grinding cup is critical. If your cup extends past the bristles, it will allow the dust to escape. There is some minor up/down adjustment possible with the shroud itself on the grinder’s collar, but not much, so the height of the cup you have is important. I see some reviewers using nice DeWalt cups that seemed to be the right height. Me? I had the cheapo HFT Warrior brand and at first it was too tall even with the arbor ring removed (the cup extended beyond the shroud’s bristles.) So, what I did was cut about a quarter inch or so off the cup’s spindle using the angle grinder and a cutoff wheel (also HFT.) There is some stock beyond the threads, so I cut that part off and was still able to fully thread the cup onto the grinder arbor after the modification. After that, I was able to set the shroud to the correct depth and was off to the races.- Opening the hinged red cover on the front will allow you to get closer to a wall (if you’re grinding a floor) but not completely flush. It’ll get you maybe a half inch away. I found that having that cover open still didn’t allow much dust to escape – definitely some, but nowhere near as much as if the shroud was off.- Go slow, make sure you’re keeping the cup flat against your surface, and apply slight pressure to keep the shroud’s bristles sealed against the surface. If you’re doing this indoors, still staple up plastic sheeting and wear a dust mask, because it isn’t 100% dustless, but the difference is night and day.Best tool purchase I’ve made in a long time!

    Served it’s purpose
I needed to remove approximately 100 ft.² of tile mortar from a concrete floor in my basement. I purchased this dust shroud and some cheap 4 inch grinding cups from Amazon. I have an older black and decker 4 1/2 inch angle grinder and this shroud worked OK on it. The shroud is relatively simple to use and comes with different shims to achieve a tight fit around the grinders collar. I had some small screws on my grinder that were in the way of the shroud fitting flash, but it worked fine despite this. The only real complaint I have is with the vacuum discharge port and rubber boot.I purchased a 4” to 2-1/2” reducer to hook the grinder to my rigid vacuum but it was not super clear how to hook everything up. I got as tight of a fit on everything as I could and then just taped it all together. The shroud definitely worked to minimize dust during grinding as long as a vacuum was on. Unrelated to the shroud, make sure you buy some type of vacuum bag or special dust filter as dust will quickly clog your vacuum if a regular filter is used without a bag. Also a face respirator is necessary to avoid inhaling silica dust from the mortar.Good shroud, served its purpose. Worth the money if you’re looking for a cheap and quick shroud for a few projects. I wouldn’t recommend this for long term use.

An Absolute Necessity for Grinding Concrete!
I bought this to do some concrete grinding to repaint areas of our basement floor where the old floor paint had begun delaminating, likely from poor surface prep by the previous owner. Diamond grinding is the ultimate method of surface prep for any concrete surface you will be applying paint or epoxy to. Unfortunately this dust shield did not fit my old Dewalt angle grinder, so I got one of the cheap harbor freight grinders on sale for ten bucks and this fit perfectly on that grinder using one of the included spacers. I also grabbed one of the cheap knockoff dust deputy cyclonic dust separators and what an absolutely amazing result. Literally ZERO dust. I was still expecting some to get by the shroud, or have the superfines make it through my vacuum filter but so far nothing has. Compared to my old method of grinding and after a minute or two not being able to see one foot in front of my face because of all the dust, then allowing it to settle and then vacuum, this is a cakewalk. I can do it indoors with zero ventilation and cant even get a whiff of that usual concrete dust smell that usually lingers in the air for hours. I am also going to use this to resurface my garage floor and epoxy coat, so we’ll see how it holds up after 1000sqft of grinding. I’ll update if it fails or the bristles wear out prematurely, but so far I’m happier than a pig in mud.

    It is an Option
The concept is good, but the execution is somewhat lacking. The Herzo is well made, so no issues with finish. Unfortunately, I ran into two issues. I removed the floor tiles in my bathroom, and I used the Herzo shroud to remove the quickset. Initially, the Herzo didn’t cleanly fit my grinder (Bosch): I couldn’t tighten the Herzo enough to prevent the shroud from shifting during use. As the cover shifts, so does the grinding wheel. Second, the vacuum attachment didn’t fit either shop-vac that I own (one is brand new). Again, I managed to figure out a solution. Ultimately, the Herzo shroud worked pretty well. The vaccum collected 75% of the dust, which is not bad. I would have finished much quicker, except that I had to continuously re-attached the vacuum hose to the shroud.

Amazing product. Had to grind down thin set to bring it back to the plywood to redo my bathroom ceramic. Started without having this and it made such a dusty mess. Ordered this and tried it on a cinder block in my garage and was able to grind down a good amount without even using a respirator. All the dust got sucked on my shop vac and there was no spec of dust to be seen. A must have

We wanted to apply a penetrating sealant to our basement floor, and had two options: etch the concrete, or grind it. The grinding option was chosen for a couple of reasons. Our first thought was to rent an 11 inch commercial grinder, but we soon discovered that it wouldn’t be possible to easily get it down our basement stairs. That left using an angle grinder with shroud and diamond cup wheel. I ordered the Herzo shroud here, and picked up a wheel at Home Depot.Preparing the shroud for use went smoothly until it was time to connect to our Rigid shop vacuum. The vacuum adapter that comes with the unit is a weird size. It might fit some odd sized vacuum hose, but it’s nowhere close to fitting a standard 1-1/4 inch hose fitting. I made up an “adapter adapter” out of the barrel of a 60 cc syringe from the vet clinic. It fit over the end of the rubber adapter perfectly and the other end was made to fit the vacuum hose end with some heat and a hose clamp. It took several minutes of use to work out a technique that gave me the finish I wanted, and from that point on, I was off to the races. The edge grinding “door” gave me some grief – it wanted to stick in the edge grinding position, and required removal from the angle grinder to get it to close. When in use, it did a good job of getting up close to the walls, while keeping dust loss to a minimum. The middle sized spacer ring allowed a good tight clamp onto the Ryobi angle grinder.Overall, this is a well made tool, with the exceptions noted above. I’d definitely recommend it. if you can work out a workable vacuum connection.
