I have a basement bathroom that had tile mortared directly to the slab and foundation walls. I used this Dastool grinder attachment along with a shopVac (with internal bag) to smooth out the surfaces in preparation for new tile. The ShopVac bag proved invaluable because the fine mortar/concrete dust plugged up the filter quickly. Very happy with this useful and affordable product.

Bought this to do some prep work around the border of my garage prior to an Epoxy application. After failing on my first attempt to get it on my Dewalt (DWE402) 4 1/2 inch angle grinder I went back through the product Q&A on Amazon and saw that someone said it wouldn’t work with my model grinder. I was all set on returning the product but then decided to give it one more shot, with a little modification to my angle grinder and the dust shroud itself I was able to get it to work. I had to remove the locking mechanism for the standard grinding shroud on my grinder and slightly grind the lip of the dust shroud to create enough clearance to mount the dust shroud flush on the tool. For the price, definitely worth a little extra effort versus the brand-name unit the tool manufacturer suggested for 4x the price. It wasn’t perfect, but it got the job done. My biggest frustration was the rubber adapter that connects from the hose adapter to the dust shroud. Even with a generous application of duct tape, it kept falling out. Also the bristles around the edge of the shroud could have been a hair shorter to position the grinding disc closer to the surface, you have to push pretty hard. I would rate this higher if the manufacturer provided better instructions, improved the vacuum line connection and built it to better accommodate the collar depth on different grinders (I shouldn’t have to use my grinder on the product to get it to work). Including some pics in case it helps others save some time and frustration!

Worked as described and fit, only issue I had was the dust brushes are a bit to long requiring extra pressure for the disk to make contact with the concrete. It works, caught the dust and took a layer down. Minus one star because the fiber brushes (or to shallow of a disc) that causes you to put uneven pressure on the grinder.

First of all I have the DeWalt 4.5” grinder mentioned by others with the spring loaded clip which adjusts the guard. This will have to be removed with a small torx bit – I believe a 15. Next, to fit this grinder you will have to grind out a small quarter- inch wide groove in the collar of this new tool to fit the grinder level. Takes about 30 seconds and lucky for you you have a grinder handy! After that it is smooth sailing. I already had the car kit for my Rigid shop vac so I had a smaller hose and tapered fitting that others complained about. I never had the vacuum hose loosen – in fact it was hard to disconnect. I used the normal vac filter plus a bag and had literally no dust – like ZERO. A few noticeable traces on the white baseboards that vacuumed right up later – but those were likely from opening the guard to get close to the wall. I ground a 150 sq ft floor taking off heavy mastic and leveling the surface of the concrete in a pored basement to prepare for radon sealing in about 4 hours. Some areas needed quite a bit of leveling. Tool was easy to keep level (could almost do 1-handed) and the moveable guard made it easy to get close to the walls. I did this in a 30 sq ft bathroom a few years ago without this tool and a standard concrete grinding wheel and covered the whole basement with toxic dust. If you spend the 10 minutes to set this tool up right it will be the best $35 you’ve ever spent. Also after the entire 150 sq ft floor there is little if any noticeable wear on the diamond wheel. Good news because I have the rest of the basement to do this spring. I can’t believe I even thought about doing this type of project without this tool before. Do yourself a favor and save a time, mess, and toxic silica dust with this tool!!

I’m using this to take old paint off of my basement concrete floors. The paint is peeling in some spots, and stuck extremely well in others. This setup allowed me to grind off all the paint and smooth out high spots.Lets talk about the different components, and some general thoughts while using this setup:INSTALLATION:Installation went ok overall. They include tons of different adapters, so you should be able to make this work on almost any grinder I would guess. I see some reviews of people saying it didn’t work for theirs, so its possible the construction/frame of your grinder may not be compatible, but I had no problem getting mine installed. I did have to loosen up the clamp way more than it was originally, and it took some force to get it installed. Some people may have given up and wrote it off as not compatible, but I was able to make it work just fine.DUST SHROUD:The Dust Shroud works EXTREMELY WELL. I’m talking almost no dust at all. I made the mistake of running it for a second without the vacuum hooked up and I couldn’t believe how much dust came out in that short amount of time. The shroud worked so well that it had me fooled not realizing that must dust was happening as it grinded. When I say it contains the dust, I mean it does it near perfectly.GRINDING WHEEL:The included grinding wheel seems to work extremely well. I grinded a section that was around 12 feet by 12 feet and it has more life left in it. I will say though, it is rather aggressive. The concrete I am grinding is old and if you push the grinding wheel down in one spot without moving, you will instantly get an indent. The trick is to constantly keep this setup moving in a circular pattern. I would say the grinding wheel is worthy of its task, and being included over other shrouds that were only $8-$10 less seems like a deal to have it included and you are ready to work.VACUUM ADAPTERS:I personally had to use a different adapter I had laying around to get it to pair up with my Wet/Dry Vac. You may get lucky, but the included adapters are on the smaller side. You could probably get away with just taping the included adapter on if you don’t have another one, but know that for some vacuums it won’t be just a simple plug and play and it will fit. Keep that in mind since it may stop you in your tracks.VACUUM FILTER CLOGGING:Your Vacuum Filter will Clog, and frequently! I’m running a regular older Wet/Dry vac that doesn’t use an internal bag, just the filter. I was stopping every few minutes or sections to stomp out my filter. It definitely will slow you down as you work, and is something you need to think about. This wheel takes off a considerable amount of material as it works, so you’ll need to continually dispose of it. I really should have used a Dust Cyclone Separator, and I may actually buy one and use it for the remaining sections of the basement to minimize the need to stop and stomp/empty out the filter and vacuum.LONGEVITY:The construction seems worthy enough that I expect to be using this for many years. The grinding wheel will eventually wear down after the diamonds are used up so I expect that I’ll need a few more wheels, but the life I’ve gotten out of the included wheel so far I am happy. If I get through another section and need to change it I would be ok with that, but maybe it will surprise me and get the entire job done. Time will tell. Either way, the tools construction feels strong and I expect its going to be tool that now sits on my shelf to be used randomly, and I’m happy to have it in my collection.LABORIOUS:Using this setup is hard on the back, hard on the knees, hard on the body. You are literally on your hands and knees moving around a disk that is spinning really fast, all while trying to focus on the surface to ensure you don’t grind down too far, and can move on to the next section. The 12’x12′ section probably took me about 2 solid hours, and about 6-8 vacuum emptying sessions. I know that you can rent these large walk behind cement grinders that is probably way easier in all ways. I considered that, but just to go pick up and drop off the rental would have taken me about 2 hours and I got the job done, and I have a tool now to keep. But, I am dreading the rest of the project so keep in mind that this is no easy tool to use, and your body will feel it.Overall, I am happy with this purchase. I was comparing this to 1 or 2 other models in almost the same price range and looked very close in construction. I took a chance on this one and I’m satisfied and recommend it.
