The X2 Omni is a great RoboVac/Mop, but it is noisy on hardwood floors. (But there’s a fix.)
We’ve used three generations of robot vacuums and one mop-only robot over the years. This robot, after addressing the noise issue I’ll talk about later, is the best one we’ve had. It has the features we were looking for, like being able to schedule two vacuum or vacuum/mop runs each day with different cleaning options. (This was one of the two reasons we wanted to replace our old robot: our old unit didn’t let us pick which rooms to clean for scheduled cleanings and it wasn’t a robo vac & mop.)So, big win for the X2 Omni robovac: We have it clean our living room, dining room, kitchen, and office at night while we’re sleeping, then send it out again at 11 AM when we are busy elsewhere to clean our bedrooms, bathroom, and hall every day of the week. Most days it just vacuums those rooms, but Friday it both vacuums and mops.Better yet, after spending a few days learning our floorplan, it now vacuums or vacuums & mops our floors without getting stuck or falling down the stairs into the basement. It even cleans and dries the mop heads when it’s done and uses a smartphone app to periodically remind me to refill the “clean” and empty the “dirty” water tanks, and clean the sensors and main brush. It is also supposed to tell me when the dust bag, brushes, and filters need to be replaced, but I haven’t seen that in action yet.OK, those are the great things about this vacuum, but it has one really big drawback: The hard rubber “beater bar” main brush the vacuum comes with is noisy. Kind of sounds like a lawnmower instead of a quiet little robovac noisy, but I found a solution. I replaced the stock beater bar / main brush with a third-party unit with the design newer Ecovacs DeeBots use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CZ3YX99XI ordered a replacement beater ( ) with a different design, and that fixed our noise problem without overly compromising the vacuum’s cleaning capabilities. We call our X2 Omni Rosie, as in Rosie the robot maid from The Jetsons cartoons, and we’re really happy with it. (Our upstairs robot is Alice, as in Alice from the Brady Bunch. The one in the basement is Dungeon Boy.)Pros:* Does a good job of vacuuming our house every day and both vacuuming and mopping our hardwood floors every Friday.* We’ve used robovacs before, but not a robo vac/mop. We found using this vac to be fairly intuitive to use.* Lots of scheduling options that allow you to tailor vacuum and mopping routines that reduce robotic interruptions into our lives.* Can vacuum, mop, or vacuum and mop at the same time.* Cleans and dries its own mop heads.* Can operate quietly on hard floors if the “beater bar” main brush is replaced with an inexpensive alternative design.* Sends smartphone reminders to help us stay on top of robot maintenance needs.* Once it learned our floorplan, it doesn’t get stuck.* Won’t bump into things or run into our feet.* Not as tall as many other robovacs, so it can clean under furniture more often.Cons:* The “beater bar” main brush that comes with the X2 Omni is very noisy when running on our hardwood floors. Noisy enough to wake us up at night and make it hard to get back to sleep, We replaced the beater bar with a third-party main brush that’s much quieter.* Misses spots here and there, but generally gets them on the next time it runs.* Only one spinning side brush, which sometimes whacks debris across the floor instead of into another brush that knocks it into the path of the main brush and vacuum.

AMAZING premium mop/vaccum robot: better than Roborock, Dreame, iRobot
OK, when I got this robot vac almost 2 months ago I was hesitant. We had just moved into a new house with all tile floors and I had just retired our Neato Botvac D10 and was looking for something that would do mopping. I tried and returned a RoboRock S8 Pro Ultra and was reading reviews about Dreame L20 and Ecovacs. Interestingly, Roborock must hire a lot of ‘plants’ to promote them on Reddit and bash every other company, but Ecovacs is a huge company in China and Roborock is just a little startup. When my wife and I visited China both our friends and the AirBnB we stayed in had Ecovacs robots. I ordered both the Dreame L20 Ultra and the X2 Omni to try out and compare. I won’t bring up the Dreame any further than to say the X2 Omni is a better designed and built robot for a cheaper price.I have to really commend Ecovacs for innovating robot design and moving to a semi solid-state Lidar system – the venerated top-mounted 360 lidar that has been around since Neato came out with the XV-11 in 2009. Before that Roomba was pretty ‘dumb’ and just bounced around randomly. The design of the top mounted lidar has stuck around for over a decade, and its proven to be a workable design, but the semi-exposed spinning laser turret on a belt drive has proven to be an achilles heel on in durability. Ecovacs has decided to boldly improve the design which lowers the overall height of the robot so it can better get under furniture. Also, most robots have settled on a round shape, while the roller brush and suction area are usually 50-70% of the width of the body. Ecovacs again improved on this design going to a flat front, like the original Neato robots, to better access corners and edges. While some companies are coming out with extendable arms and edge hoses, I have discovered over many robot vacuums that the more of these mechanical parts there are, the more likely they are to malfunction and break in the long run. Because honestly, even at $1000 these robot vacuums are not industrial machines, they are little more than useful toys. They aren’t meant to fully replace our job of cleaning, but they are meant to help alleviate our workload. The X2 Omni originally shipped with firmware 1.50, but after having the bot for about a week it updated to firmware 1.62. After another few weeks it updated again to 1.70. Tonight it just received an update to 1.75! Ecovacs is really spending time improving this model. With each firmware update I have noticed improvements in its mapping, navigation, and floor cleaning efficiency. For all the reviewers who criticized the X2 omni, I wish they had reported which firmware they were using. Also, I have found that many of the problems users experience with a robot come down to how they have their house set up. Personally we don’t leave phone charger cables hanging around the floor, or random socks, or little kids toys like legos. We don’t have high pile carpet, there are only a few low-pile area rugs, and we don’t have high saddles in doorways. Almost all of our furniture is raised to the point that the robot can easily go under it and not get stuck.I did have some problems with the robot thinking that our lazy-boy couch was a wall, but tech support was very helpful by explaining that it was because one side of the couch is against the wall and the robot didn’t understand that it was a separate piece of furniture. But other than that the 3D house mapping to even show you furniture in the app is amazing.I have found the X2 omni solid-state LIDAR + AI camera-based navigation to be amazing, and the mopping functionality is the best I have found. I love the voice-activated YIKO functions that don’t even require an Alexa or Google or Apple device to use. I wouldn’t say this robot is perfect, but I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase.
