Customers say
Customers find the vacuum cleaner performs well and has powerful suction power. They appreciate its durability, sturdiness, and suitability for heavy-duty cleaning tasks. The vacuum’s suction makes dust pickup a breeze, making cleanup simple. Many customers find it a good value for money, easy to assemble, and effective at collecting dust. However, opinions differ on the size.

Best suction of any vac I researched, 20 gallon canister. A real shop vac, not a toy.
Anyone buying a any product should assess his/her own needs, applications, and budget before making a purchase decision. The right product for one person isn’t the right product for another. I read a lot of product reviews before making a purchase decision, and I read a lot of one and five star reviews from people that I don’t think know what they’re talking about, so the reviews aren’t much help if you cannot assess the reviewer. So here’s my two cents. I’m a serious home hobbyist wood and metal worker, formerly did it for a living. I had a Craftsman heavy duty 20 gallon shop vac that just died after 40 years of incredible service. In shopping for a new vac, I was appalled at how cheap everything now is, and from all vendors: plastic instead of metal, lower cost materials, and less durable. Unfortunately, most of the local stores do not carry 20 gallon shop vacs, but cater to the lower end smaller products. I bought a Rigid 14 gallon heavy duty vac as the replacement, and was immediately disappointed. The vacuum was anemic, and the 14 gallon canister was entirely inadequate. The canister is so short that the filter soon becomes surrounded by debris and begins losing suction when the canister is only half full.So I began an online search. Many of the mainstay vac companies don’t even make a 20 gallon vac, but Craftsman had two or more models. I compared all the specs between the Craftsman models, and ended up buying the CRAFTSMAN CMXEVBE17596, which has significantly more suction (measured in CFM) than the other models. I’ve now had the opportunity to use is extensively, and it has the same strength of vacuum as my dead vac (critical performance for me), and matches it for other performance features as well. Here’s what was finally important to me: wet/dry capability, 20 gallon canister, 20 foot power cord (anything less is a joke if you really want to use this as a shop vac), and high suction (~190 CFM according to Craftsman, and HP or peak HP is really a meaningless measurement since air movement is the only thing that matters). The only remaining question is the unit’s durability. I’m happy in every other regard. From my perspective, the optional dust bag that lines the canister is worthless. It simply does what the canister itself already does: collects whatever your vacuum sucks up, but you pay each time you use one and throw one away. It’s a completely unnecessary expense.

Excellent vac with a fiasco product experience
CRAFTSMAN 12 Gallon 6.0 Peak HP Wet/Dry Vac, Portable Shop Vacuum with Attachments is my second Craftsman shop vac. My first was the 16 gallon and there are noticeable differences between the two sizes. The only reason I don’t have the 16 gallon is because of a not so honest person we dealt with selling our house so I gave away many items that I still needed, due to him giving us false closing info….anyway on to more interesting things to talk about. This 12 gallon shop vac is very very light weight. The 16 gal not so much.Attachments, canister, hose are all smaller in size than the 16 gal which I like.Suction is just 1 /2 mini horse smaller than the 16 gal but it suctions just as well and even better! Why better? Because the 1/2 (higher) mini horse power made the vacuum suction TO the floor with any attachments on it. Where as this vac suctions extremely well, draws up EVERYTHING from dust to concrete chunks AND doesn’t suction its self TO the floor. I had to literally always shut off the 16 gal vac to get it to let GO of the floor when it had the floor attachment on. The crevice tool was never a problem.Comes with several attachments and the hose pieces. Once you put the hose pieces together they are VERY difficult to pull apart. They are very tight fitting, so that’s a pro, the not pulling apart easily is a con but better than them not fitting together. Had the same problem with the 16 gal.We had to gently but firmly mallet the feet on. They are supposed to snap on….nope.Cons & my fiasco experience:My shop vac arrived WITHOUT screws of ANY kind. Zero, nada, zilch…none. Sooooo, I called Amazon customer service. Long story short they were going to give me a $17 discount for no screws but I felt this was a screwy offer – yes pun intended.WHY should I take that offer? The screws SHOULD have been included…PERIOD. I didn’t want a discount, I wanted the screws to attach the hose holders and handle!Fiasco #2. – 6 lid teeth were broken off in shipping. So when the Amazon customer service person hears me griping about his $17 offer, I brought up the broken teeth which he then tried to grill me on why am I bringing this up NOW ? He didn’t believe me.I didn’t bring it up because I was calling to get missing screws. The teeth are important but don’t affect the performance overall. The lid has locks on two sides to hold it down. BUT again, I paid full price for this vac sooooo…..Long story short I submitted photos of the broken teeth, told him I’d have to make an effort to replace and match/ find the right screws and/ or glue on the handle with construction cement (fiancé is going to do this) .I demanded a steeper discount and he FINALLY listened and gave it.I’m VERY pleased with this Craftsman shop vac. It performs like a pro, iand s easy on the pocket book.A+++++ ratingB and half of a minus grading for customer service.

I will never buy a different brand shopvac this is perfect.
When I broke my old craftsman shopvac two years ago I thought I would try a cheaper brand with supposedly the same specs and power as my old craftsman.. but that thing was total garbage. I couldnt even vacuum leaves in my garage without it clogging I got so mad I just threw it away and bought this craftsman again, and oh boy, am I glad I did. I had forgot how great the suction plwer is with craftsman shopvacs. I use it for so many things I even vacuum my backyard bc my neighbors tree constantly drops leaves. This vac sucks everything, it never clogs, it has a huge amount of space inside. Its easy to assemble, easy to use, the hose doesnt come out of the intake port if you pull too hard, it rolls easily, it opens and empties easily and yet it will not open unless you intend to open it, the attachments are so perfect for all my needs, and the diameter of the tubes is big enough that it wont clog on large leaves or rocks or stray vines. I use this for everything to keep my outside and garage clean and Im obsessed with it. I will always own this shopvac or one like it by craftsman and never will I ever try a other brand ever again. OH it also killed it, when I cleaned my subaru. It has a skinny tip attachment that works perfectly for vacuuming car carpets and seats and cracks. My car is spotless and I love that. Great vac, 10 stars.. perfect.

Awesome Vac
I should have had this years ago. It’s a little bigger than I thought but it’s a good thing. Great for big spills, shop cleanup, etc It is also like having a carwash vac at home. Super powerful

Likes: The paper filters, the fairly quiet operation (compared to my old shop vac), the great suction power, low dust (with paper filter.), quality built, long cord, great set of attachments, lock in hoseDislikes: A little too big and heavy for my needs, not that great as a blower.

Its got a low center of gravity so its not prone to flipping over like my old one. It was very easy to assemble, no parts were missing, it runs fairly quietly, has good suction, and blows really well. It would be nice if the ears sticking off the handle for wrapping the cord were a little longer because they work, but just OK. Maybe they’ll get better as the cord gets used a little more. Pretty minor though in the big picture.
